Dear Participants -
Welcome to Saratoga and the 2009
International Conference on Advances in Mathematics, Computational
Methods, and Reactor Physics (M&C
2009)! Over 2.5 years of planning culminates this week in
Saratoga Springs, New York as M&C 2009 has arrived.
The continuing worldwide resurgence in
nuclear power is evidenced by the impressive and broad technical
program covering the latest advances in computational methods and
numerical analysis for reactors and applications beyond. With ~285
papers and well over 300 attendees from around the world (including
more than 90 students), the technical program is exceptionally
strong. I would like to thank all of our authors and tutorial
leaders; we look forward to hearing about your latest technical
innovations and breakthroughs. I also want to recognize the
outstanding efforts by our Technical Program Committee (led by
Brian Aviles, Bob Grove, Enrico Sartori, and Aaron Watson).
I would also like to thank each and every one
of our corporate sponsors, particularly our major sponsors: Knolls
Atomic Power Laboratory and IBM. Through the generosity of all of
our sponsors, we are able to provide for significant student
Your attendance and participation at the
conference will help to make it a resounding success. We hope that
you will be energized from the technical program and discussions,
strengthen current friendships, make many new ones, and take
advantage of the true charm of Saratoga.
On behalf of the entire local
organizing committee, we would like to express our sincerest thanks
for your help in making M&C 2009 one of the most intellectually
stimulating and exciting conferences to date!
